"Different Time" was supposed to be Deb's fourth album, though was scrapped and ended up recording "Body Mind Soul" since the label wanted her to be more edgy.

Though if it had been done, it would flop, like "Body Mind Soul", since the music industry was changing  (ie more R&B, hardcore rap, alternative/grunge) and Deb wasn't taken serious as an artist since she was pegged as an '80's pop princess. Not to mention an infamous Milli Vanilli that caused the downfall of pop music.

Deb could easily top the adult contemporary charts with her ballads and some '80's pop artists still had hits in the early 1990's like Paula Abdul, Taylor Dayne, Prince, and Janet Jackson, who pretty much was still popular throughout the decade (same for another artist that everybody's familiar with  Roll Eyes ).  Sting & Annie Lennox also became successful in the A/C charts.

I originally thought "Different Time" was the original title for "Body Mind Soul" until somebody mentioned that it was different and an album cover was already made.

Does anybody have the picture?

Liner notes from her 'Memory Lane' albums:

About "Different Time"
Quote
"This is the direction I wanted for the fourth album" Kinda quirky.

About "Taken By You"
Quote
"I wanted this for BMS" Circa 1991
Probably where I got the confusion from...

About "Behind The Eyes"
Quote
Kinda like an 'I Love Your Smile' vibe. Wanted this for the BMS album, but Atlantic said 'no'!!!

The songs on the poll are from 1990 to 1992.

All are great, though here's my top three:

"Heart & Soul"... A beautifully done ballad that Deb performed during the "One Step Ahead" tour. Not sure if it was one of the tracks for "Different Time", but Deb have peformed songs that aren't on her albums or on an upcoming release. One of her best.

"What If"... A fun, upbeat pop song.

"Feels So Right"... kinda reminds me of "Butterflies Are Free". Agree with the liner notes that it's one of the best that showcases her voice.

"What U Mean 2 Me" probably was made for "Anything Is Possible", but not sure...

There wasn't any hints of "Everything", but assume it's from the  1990's since her voice sounded mature...

When I first heard about her fourth album it was late 1991 and it was supposed to be called "A Different Time."  Listening to the songs that she wanted to have on it I think that the reason why Atlantic had her put out "Body Mind Soul" instead was because it would have sounded too much like "Anything is Possible."  The thing is that I liked "Body Mind Soul."  After that Atlantic wanted her to go Alternative/Grunge and she just wasn't interested.

I have some photos and some other stuff from the Different Time album.  It was never A DIFFERENT TIME, always just DIFFERENT TIME.   What U Mean 2 Me was originally called LOVE/HATE.

Kind of makes you wonder what would of happened if Different Time was never AIP and Deb would have gotten her wishes.

I also sometimes think about how things might have been for her and others if that Milli Vanilli thing had never happened.  I do think that "Anything is Possible" and "Body Mind Soul/Different Time" would have been bigger than they were.  Possibly "Anything is Possible" could have been top 10.  That scandal really did change things in music.

^ true since it caused many to dislike pop music and not take the genre seriously.

The music climate was also changing since hardcore rap and alternative became more mainstream.

I remember a couple days after I saw Deb on her EY tour.  I was watching this old show on TBS that played music videos on Saturday nights called Nighttracks.  The last single of of EY released in the US was We Could Be Together.  The show was the only time I ever saw that video played on tv.  They debuted it on a sneak peak.  I never even heard the song played on the radio here either.  That was back in Mid September of 89.  Even MTV was changing things around towards the end of 89.

Atleast she wasn't a major target for ridicule like New Kids and Bon Jovi.

That's funny in a way because Bon Jovi was the butt or more jokes in the mid 90s than Vanilla Ice ever was/is.  Now though it's as if none of that ever happened.

You know i think that if AIP wasn't put in the NRG and Mood Swings categories, like each n one side it might have sold more records. Since she was just kinda coming off her ballads fame LIYE,NMR,FB.....after hearing all the  upbeat songs in a row it just made it seem like it sucked although it didn't really. People that were giving reviews probably gave her bad ones strictly based on the order of the songs. She had some real pretty ballads on that album. Some that are still my all time favorites. I mean "Sure" is one of those songs that should have been heard. I will admit the NRG side was lacking a little., but the first 2 songs were good then Deep Down didn't suck and Lead Them Home My Dreams was a good one. It just shouldn't have been so pigeon-holed.
