When did you become a fan of the ever lovely & multi talented Deborah Gibson
I first discovered Deb around 1997 (since Iwas born in the mid 1980's) watching one of those '80's themed video marathons on MTV ("Authentic Reproduction"), which I remember a "Club MTV" performance of "Only In My Dreams". Also "Shake Your Love" on a show VH1 had for a few months featuring dance pop videos.
I was getting into pop & new wave music from the '80's, though mostly into some "post grunge" bands like Beck & Green Day.
Though got into her later stuff in 1999 when I found one of her later albums and also started listening to her early albums since I was only familiar with a few hits from "Out of the Blue" and "Lost In Your Eyes" song, which made me realize how great she really is as a singer/songwriter even at a young age at the time. Her later lalbums are also great...though should've gotten the recognition they deserve.
Especially in ballads, which I find her voice very soothing/appealing to listen to. Her upbeat songs are great too. Also enjoyed "Colored Lights" despite that I'm not into musical theatre.
Besides being talented, she always had a kind face, down to earth personality (from what I read, though wouldn't want to meet her or any celebrity since it could be a letdown) and class unlike several pop singers from recent times.
Not to mention of the best and underrated pop singer/songwriters of the last 20 years despite what narrowminded music snobs, wannabe music critics and haters think.

With the OOTB album. I was heavily into the british charts at the time, she had a few top 10 singles, and I managed to get the album (because it wasn't easy at all to get Deb's albums in France at the time...) Followed her ever since, except for the 1992-1997 years when I had no news and couldn't find any of her albums. As soon as I got the internet, I was back in...

Hey frieds, I discovered Deb about 1990, but then I didn't take attention on her music. On Nov 2002 I met her for first time. Since then I've been in the USA sixteen times and I've met her... I don't know, but maybe about forty times. I don't know if I'm a good fan, but she knows that she can count with my suppor always. Jordi.

1988, but the last.fm profile does not reflect the "fandom" that people speak of if looking at artists listened to. Over recent years I've listened to less Deb music, and the older stuff sounds better somehow then some of the newer, except some tracks from M.Y.O.B.

I heard the demo of OIMD right before the 12" was released by Atlantic in 1986 cause a friend had it on his walkman at camp. I'll never forget R**** saying that his sister was friends with Deborah and that she was hoping to get a record deal. I was a fan right away! Though I WISH I had copied R****** demo tape!!! BURNS ME!!

I became fan of Deborah in 1987 when her first album came out since then I have not stopped listening to her stuff. When Foolish Beat hit number one, I became a fan for good, I was just 15 at the time and was amazed by her ability write her own material something that most of today’s wannabe pop princesses or prince’s can’t do. I have seen all the live videos on Youtube that are there, since I was never able to back then ever see her in concert, except for those few times she appeared on tv, and I hate to say we will never see another performer like her ever again in our lifetime again.

Ditto and she's unique talent She's still the youngest artist to write, produce, and record a #1 hit with "Foolish Beat" at age 17 (wrote at 14) And 2008's the 20th anniversary and probably will still hold years to come

Another reason I listen to Deb is that she's one of the very few artists that continue to release great material despite ever changing trends, stays true to herself and sings from her heart. Also she's more focused on her career and doesn't let fame into her head.
I prefer her music over Madonna and Michael Jackson. They're legends in their own right (MJ's dancing, groundbreaking music videos & Madonna being an '80's fashion icon), but haven't really released anything good for over 15 years and are more known for their controversies than their music. Nothing against both since they have released great songs, but both were constantly kissed upon in the 1990's by MTV & VH1. There's a certain pop singer I strongly detest and never understood the appeal, but that's another topic...
