For some reason, I think Deb's videos should be released on DVD. Besids "Only In My Dreams" on "Essential Music Videos: Pop Hits".

Though it's (unfortunately) very unlikely...

There's many hair metal bands on DVD, especially those with a few hits like Ratt, Twisted Sister, & Lita Ford. Also New Kids On The Block and Menudo (not a fan of the two, but both have video compilation DVDs). Not to mention those 6 dollar DVDs featuring 5 or 6 videos from a particular artist.

Though her "Electric Youth" video might be edited since it features some archival clips  (ie Prince, Michael Jackson) that would be very costly to put on DVD. Like vintage films, it should be left uncut. Though for some reason, Arsenio Hall's  cameo on Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" video is blurred out on her Video Hits DVD.  Roll Eyes

If there were to be a DVD (from Rhino or Atlantic), more likely would have Deb's videos from 1987 to 1993..

1. "Only In My Dreams"
2. "Shake Your Love"
3. "Out Of The Blue"
4. "Foolish Beat"
5. "Staying Together"
6. "Lost In Your Eyes"
7. "Electric Youth"
8. "No More Rhyme"
9. "We Coul Be Together"
10. "Anything Is Possible"
11. "One Hand, One Heart"
12. "This So Called Miracle"
13. "Losin' Myself"
14. "Shock Your Mama"

extras:

commentary
picture gallery (set to one of her songs)
"Out Of The Blue" remix video (maybe other remix videos or alternate versions, if there's any)
"In The Still In The Night"
"Love Under My Pillow"
"Don't Flirt With Me"
interview bits

Or

"Out Of The Blue"/"Live In Concert: The Out Of The Blue Tour" (as one DVD)
...though George Michael might be blurred from her shirt Roll Eyes

"Live Around The World" (with her other music videos from the early 1990's as extras)

...also wouldn't mind one of those DVDs that have only 6 videos, though those are more for the casual fans

They don't seem to be interested in doing it.  They might release "Lost in Your Eyes" at some point but I really don't know if they will ever release all of them.

Unless it'll make them $$$, such a DVD will NEVER see the light of day.

why do you think a lot of crapfests like Evan Almighty end up on DVD?

Atlantic is very stingy about releasing rights to songs or videos that they own.  They've released some rights or leased rights but not that often.

David Bryne's the lead singer of Talking Heads ("Once In A Lifetime", "Burning Down The House", "And She Was", "Stop Making Sense" concert film with the oversized white suit).

Erasure's a new wave band known for hits like "A Little Respect" and "Chains Of Love".

I'd buy a Deb DVD in a heartbeat. Add in a possibilities tour vid and it's perfect.
I think Rhino would do it because they do other low-profile artists compilations and are used to small benefits, but the problem is what Out of the blue said, Atlantic won't release the rights. I suppose they somewhat think that Deb could have a comeback, and these vids/songs could sell again...

I was reading on the Rhino website Tori Amos was on Atlantic Records from 1991-1999. All her material is on a Music Video DVD and a Box set CD collection.

www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=970295
www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=77775

They should do that for Deb in the future. Shocked

They usually give box sets and special edition CDs to critically acclaimed bands/artists.

And most of the time "critically acclaimed" means that it's just not very good.

Several years ago, there was a music video compilation from Deb's site (didn't buy it though). Most of the items from her site, back when they actually sold merchandises, were pricey.

It's kind of an interesting debate.  If you go to YouTube, Rhino has put a number of her videos on there.  Only problem is YouTube's "less than picture perfect" display of said videos.

One would think if Rhino has no problem releasing them there, then one would figure - why not just do a quick dvd release of her videos?  Maybe like a budget release of ten songs at the minimum?

I saw this was done with The Bangles videos a few years back, although a different company (SONY).  But their's looked like a direct transfer from VHS with no digital polish-up to them. Grainy, in other words.  I haven't seen it, but I did see a few copies float around Borders stores.  Now, it's disappeared - likely replaced with their recent live dvd, although i imagine one could easily order it online still.

If Rhino has real world expectations for a Deb dvd, and realize they won't make a million bucks off of it, they could create something that could give them a little profit for a year.  Budget cover with a limited production run (1000? 5000 units?)  Or just have it available online at Rhino's website and make as it sells.

Really, it's a lot better than just doing nothing with it.

I wouldn't  mind they just put video tape material onto DVD. As long it's decent or atleast watchable (not grainy/murky).

Haven't seen the Bangles' music video DVD, though the Poison (Capitol Records) "Greatest Video Hits" DVD does have a few colored bars on the top for a few seconds. Though haven't seen any really bad restoration besides cheap public domain  DVDs.

Though I noticed a few edits on the Paula Abdul "Video Hits" DVD like censoring Arsenio Hall by blurring his image on "Straight Up". Though Keanu Reeves, who's a bigger celebrity than Hall...well by today's standards, and Elijah Wood are still intact. There's also a few "blurs" on clothes for company logos.

Ratt "Videos From The Cellar: The Atlantic Years" looks good, which contain two of their video tapes. Even the interview segments from the tapes are listed  on the menu.

The release of the Ratt videos gives one some hope of an eventual Deb video release.  I think the reunion of Stephen Pearcy (and the subtraction of Juan Croucier instantaneously) with Ratt helped wake up Rhino/Atlantic creative staff to come up with a greatest hits cd and dvd releases.  I saw the Ratt tour with Poison last summer. Although Stephen sounds more raw compared to the old days, at least I got to see them live for once in my lifetime.  I was a big fan of their first 4 cds.

I'm not surprised with Arsenio being blurred out.  He was a known celebrity on one of Paula's videos.  I don't even remember Keanu or Elijah in her videos.  If the guests don't get a royalty cut or mention, then why bother being shown for free?  It's all owned by the label...I don't think Paula has ownership of them?  Unless Paula owned said video rights (I'd do it free for a friend), I'd say blur me off if I'm Arsenio.  What has the music corps. done for music artists lately??!!!!  Other than profit from catalog sales like always...
