I have to say, Deborah's career came and went pretty rapidly.  I saw her in "concert" at a record store near Chicago in 1995.  She was still just 25 years old.  About 150 people were in the audience at the record store.  This is someone who as a teenager was headlining huge concert venues.  The audience was enthusiastic, but it was small.  Her career was largely over at age 25.  She later did "Beauty and the Beast" on Broadway, but that wasn't like headlining huge music venues.

Now that she doesn't even have an official web site, I would say that the chance for a real comeback is small.  Not that I am a fan, but I wonder where Miley Cyrus' career will be in 10 years.  Not that I worry about Miley's finances (she unquestionably has a lot of money), but I do worry about her well-being.  I would hate for Miley's career to burn out by age 26.  That can not be good for anybody psychologically.

I doubt Miley Cyrus would be popular within 5 years since she'll be forever known as "Hannah Montana" or the daughter of the "Achy Breaky" guy.

True that her popularity have fizzled, but Deb pretty much still have a career since she's still  performing in theatre and singing.

I wish to make it clear that I am a fan of Deborah "Debbie" Gibson.  "Out Of the Blue" is an amazing album, released when Deborah was about 16 years old.  I am only commenting that her status as a pop-star petered out when she was quite young.

I will say one more thing:  Perhaps she has made some choices in recent years to not pursue her career agressively.  I sort of hope that is the case.  I hope she isn't desperately trying to work, and getting limited opportunities to work.

I use to defend Deborah and think that there was a chance she would have success again.  Her time on the charts was very short.  By the time the Electric Youth tour was ending, the few people who had them were throwing away their tapes and records on my block.  In the USA, she was not charting well and it all went downhill from there.  It makes more sense that people went to the EY tour only because they had already purcahsed tickets and could not get a refund.

I think she has spent most of her money.  She does not stand a chance in hell of having a comeback.  She has made too many enemies along with her momager and people in the entertainment industry would not waste a dime or a day to help her.  New artists are easier to break than a woman that people consider a has been, a teen idol, and do not even like to admit they owned her album or single.  She still has a career, but unknown artists can achieve the same success she has currently.  Camp Electric Youth is a nice idea.  Deborah can help kids with their talent.  However, these kids should run and scream at the top of their lungs like a stranger offering them candy if Diane or Deborah offer to be their managers.

No one has ever been able to maintain a high level of popularity throughout their careers.  Not even Elvis could do it.  A career reaches a peak and then it drops off some, never to attain that level again.  That said though, Deborah has more of a career right now than Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston do.  Michael will never cut another album and Whitney was supposed to be negotiating with a label to record an album but I hear she walked away from it because they wanted her to change her style.  Deborah is still working and keeping herself busy.  Most former teen idols turn to drugs or alcohol when the spotlight and hit albums fade away but she's stayed clear of that.  I think that there are many opportunities for her out there, it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.  I doubt that she will ever have a hit like her first ones were again but I don't expect her to and I can live with it if she doesn't.

As for Miley though I just can't see her being around for the long term.

Of course, they're not here to help anyone, they're just here for money. They just think a Deb album wouldn't make enough money, that's all. Same for a ton of other ex-stars, some far bigger than Deb ever was.

This is slightly off topic, but I heard Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" on the radio today.  Cyndi Lauper is another pop-star who started out huge, but whose career quickly petered out.  Pop-stardom can be a short-term thing.  I am sure a great many other pop acts have had brief careers, not just Deborah and Cyndi Lauper.

Madonna is someone whose pop-music career has lasted a long time.  I wish Deborah Gibson's career was like Madonna's.

well debbie & tiffany were like the late 80's version of christina & britne. But unfortunately both of thse 80's act popularity faded quickly while xtin is about to release her greatest hits album to celebrate 10 years of succes. And Britney is about to release a new album in december she's been succesfull for ever 10 years too.
And In Fact Babt=y One More Time will be 10 years old in december i believe.

Why Oh Why her career cam and went soo fast i will never understand.Late 80's teenpop act doesn't seem to last as long as late 90's teen pop act that are still here 10 years later.

nkotb are the only late  80's  former teen pop idols who has managed to make a succefull return in music
and they were a big joke back in their very  hey days Wink

Cyndi Lauper still tours and also released albums like one featuring old blues standards some years ago.

Personally, I find Madonna very overrated since she hasn't done anything decent since 1990's "Vogue" and is more known for being a media hog since she tend to grasp attention she doesn't really need anymore. Don't get me wrong, I like several of her early hits, but she isn't anything great like MTV & several critics have been stating.

I pretty much prefer Deb over Madonna.

There's many artists that still record music despite not being in the public eye or famous anymore like Taylor Dayne, Hanson to  even AC/DC, which I didn't know were still around until recently.

Honestly, popularity and sales  doesn't really matter anymore.

Especially that there's celebs that are only known for gossip rather than their work
