I know most former teen idols aren't taken seriously and are pigeonhold and with their past image or whatever. Also most people probably are only familiar with a few of her past hits and never gave her music a chance. Or those narrowminded that just like to putdown certain artists of any genre.
Atleast she wasn't a target of ridicule in the media like New Kids or Bon Jovi.

That's pretty much it. Music writers and critics seem to get stuck with a particular image or time period and never accept anything else. They have a lot of power over who and what becomes popular.

For some reason, most music critics appear if they have the same opinion and only kiss up to certain artists and/or whatever's popular. As a teen, I thought about being a journalist, but scrapped the idea since I would end up being negative.

Most music journalists and critics seem to be from the same cloth. Many of them are wannabee musicians that didn't make it because they either didn't have the talent or because they didn't get the opportunities. That's made some of them jealous and bitter towards the ones that do have success. They only seem to value one or two types of music and see anything else as being pretend or "corporate" music that they just dismiss. Respect is a big problem with them.
