Though it's now a musical that Deb penned, which she did wrote songs for the movie that would've been her first starring film role or Kenny Ortega's directorial debut or his  only good movie since "Hocus Pocus" and the "High School Musical" films are really bad.

"Sex", which is one of the songs from the musical, is on "Colored Lights: The Broadway Album". Though the musical is still in the works and recently cowrote (with Jimmy Van Patten) "The Flunky".

"Back of my Mind", which Deb stated that it may or may not be on "Skirts", is on "Memory Lane Vol 1."

"Joey" (from "Memory Lane Vol. 2") and "Love Under My Pillow" (from "Live Around The World" video tape) were written for the movie that never took off.   CDs ('Memory Lane" vol 1 & 2) and video are  out of print.

 Movie Role

Debbie has landed the lead role in a movie called Skirts , to be directed by Dirty Dancing choreographer Kenny Ortega.  “I’ve done tons of theatre, and a lot of short films for schools and extra work.
“But this is kind of getting back in a much bigger way into something I used to do. It’s very exciting,” she says. “I read for a lot of different roles.
“It was kinda funny - I met a lot of the same casting directors I read for five years ago. “It was like Ha ha, remember me? I was knocking on your door and now you  called me.” Debbie, 19, reckons she’s more comfortable on stage than anywhere else. “I feel like  I’m in my living room.”

Debbie will also write part of the soundtrack for the movie.

“I’m looking into doing movies again this year. I’ve been reading scripts all year and I’ve just found one. I really want to make sure it’s the right thing, I don’t just want to do a film for the sake of doing a film and have it be real cheesy haha! I want to be in a film with some sort of message as well, like the film Skirts. It was a real fun and up kinda movie but it had an anti-racism message hidden in it. It was kinda like West Side Story only it ended on a good note. I don’t want to say too much about the new movie yet because I don’t  know whether it’ll all work out or whatever.”

What happened to the film you were supposed to be making?

There was kind of a political thing because someone took over the studio which was making it and all the projects were put on hold. Once it was put on hold I went into the studio, Kenny Ortega, the choreographer and director, went on to do a TV show and it just never happened. I think it was a bit of a blessing in disguise because I’d just finished off my tour of Australia and two days later I was gonna have to start on the film. That would have been really crazy. But I’m looking into doing another film at this moment, possibly to do it at the end of this year. It’s not musical at all. It’s a darker film and it revolves around kids on the street.

What would've happened if if the movie "Skirts" had been made?

It might be a moderate hit and debut in the middle of the top 10 if released in the summer of 1990.
