Since it's been over 20 years, Deb definately deserves her long awaited comeback. Especially with so much junk in the radio today and that the music industry is now a vast cesspool for over a decade.

I know she'll never be as popular like she was during her 'electric youth', but a moderate hit could happen. Her "Think With Your Heart" album could've sank Celine Dion off the charts and "MYOB" could've given her another top 10 if radio have given her a chance and given the right promotion.

She had a moderate hit in 2006 with Jordan Knight on the duet "Say Goodbye" that peaked at #23 at the Billboard Adult Contemorary Charts. Though only little radio airplay and a very  few tv appearances.

Something like Shaggy's comeback  or Kylie's US comeback a few years ago would've been better with more song airplay and given more tv appearance like "SNL" & "Tonight Show". Not to mention award nominations (ie Grammy, American Music Awards).

Also,  I wonder if peoples' (ie music snobs, public)  perspective of Deb could change?

Bon Jovi was once the butt of jokes in the 1990's, pegged with the '80's hair metal scene and now taken seriously as an artist. So why not Deborah Gibson? She's more than an '80's pop princess.
Though unfortunately, I doubt it.

I'm tired of reading ignorant, rude, immature comments about Deb. Especially from those with very little or no knowledge about her.

And she's nowhere near a "hasbeen" since she's now a successful stage actress. Since Matthew Broderick mostly does theatre and the only movie I can think of is "Ferris Bueller" would that make him a hasbeen? I think not. (BTW, I'm indifferent towards him and just trying to prove a point) Heck, there's tons of celebs now that are famous for the sake of being famous and more focused on partying than acting and/or singing.

As for changing her name from 'Debbie' to 'Deborah', she never liked the name "Debbie" as a teen and always preferred to be called by her full name 'Deborah'. Not to distant herself from the past.

Funny how people act as Mark Wahlburg was never "Marky Mark".

I still think she has at least one big hit left in her.  Meatloaf was the butt of as many if not more jokes in the 80s than Bon Jovi was in the 90s and then he had that huge hit in 1993.  The funny thing about that was that was the only #1 song of his entire career.  Considering where the music business is right now I don't think Deborah will be as big as she was in 1987/88 but when you think about it, she wasn't an A lister then either.  That's never bothered me because no one stays on the A list long at all.  Usually when they fall off they fall off hard too.  The bad thing about music now is that it's almost as if talent is a bad thing to have.

And where is Mr. Aday NOW?Huh

She burned her bridges when she did THAT, so until she realizes ANY deal is a good deal, I see no comeback in the future.

I dont think she'll ever make it back. Of course she deserves to, but I think MYOB was the last chance saloon, and it just didnt happen.

Here's how Deborah can have a HUGE comeback;

1. shave her head
2. get drunk off her ass and make a huge scene at a club (every Saturday night)
3. have children, don't know who the father is, and then lose custody of them because of being such an unfit mother
4. do a duet with Paris Hilton
5. start being bff's with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan
6. get jail time for something
7. commit several hit and runs

I'm sure there are many more things like that that would really increase her press in the tabloids and on tabloid TV.  Basically that's what gets you famous today.  Twenty years ago it would have cost you your career.  Now it makes one.  Roll Eyes

LOL if Deb did all of the above we would see Diane running to Dr Phil.  LOL  All of that would just about kill her poor mother. LOL

I think she could do it. If only she would come out with a song.....
I hope she stays away from the whole dance music thing. Leave that to the 20 somethings. Doesn't necessarily have to be a ballad but maybe something like Jaded or Ode to a would be lover. Something like that. Radio IS playing a better variety of music then they were 10 years ago. I mean you can hear rock, pop, country, and ballads all on one station these days.

Funny thing, Erica. If Brit wants to be on Dr Shill, she'd have to sign a waiver saying...........

You do not suffer from mental illness.
You are not under psychiatric care.
You understand anything Dr. Phil says is not therapy or a substitute for any form of therapy.

There's also demographics.

Besides fans, which most are in their later 20's to early 40's, Deb only appeals to nostalgic Gen Xers, and those into theatre (for the musicals she been in).

Not many people under 25 are familiar with her. There's a few, like myself, that are into her, but not much compared to those into the flavor of the week.

I've done a survery on another board, which most of my peers find her music too dated or corny. Then again, they're into current junk and look at BS like if she's a music icon.

That's something I've noticed while reading some of the comments left on her myspace page.  Things like "You take me back to my high school years;" "That was the best time in music;" "You're so much better than what there is today;" "I wish I could go back;" things like that.

Well, Kim Wilde was managed by her mother too , and enjoyed a massive worldwide success for 15 years. Deb's main problems to achieve a large success are the "teen queen" image that's sticking to her, and actual mainstream music being very different of Deb's. There's not much Diane can do about all this.
