Some excerpts: sourceTaylor Swift article from Deb's official blog. Maintaining a “good girl” image isn’t easy within the pop industry, said Debbie Gibson, a teen star of the 1980s who said she remembers “fighting to wear high-tops instead of heels” in her videos.
“It is the hard road, but the high road,” said Gibson by email while on a tour stop in Manila with Children’s International. “It is nothing new for male record execs to wanna vamp up a little girl. It’s a way easier sell.”
It’s not easy for a pop star to grow up in public after becoming known to the public as an adolescent, according to Gibson.
“The danger in projecting an innocent image at a young age is that everyone makes a huge deal over it when you are eventually in touch with your sexuality and dressing ‘age appropriate.’” Gibson said. “People want to keep you sweet and innocent forever when it’s the first image you project.” Of course, break out as a vamp, and you have to change every five minutes.

sourcePosted in Messages from Deborah on November 5, 2010 by Deborah Gibson Hey everyone!
Japan is AMAZING! SO great to be back!
I had the honor of being interviewed by Hiro Ozaki, the son of the late Yutaka Ozaki who wrote and sang the original version of “I Love You”, the first single off Ms, Vocalist.
His show “Concerned Generation” on Inter FM is about just that. Young people wanting to make social change. Electric Youth so to speak!
I found him to be a thoughtful interviewer and a sensitive and deep young man who is representing his father’s legacy with grace.
The interview airs tonite – Nov 6th – and I do hope you tune in to hear us chatting in detail about the song and album, as well as Children International and my recent visit to Manila, and so much more!
Arigato to all the wonderful people I’m meeting, and re-meeting!
And, Eric Martin of Mr. Big and Mr, Vocalist fame is so fun and talented and we are having a blast promoting our respective albums!
Thanx to Sony for all their hard work! I hope this is the start of much more to come!
Speaking of which…. Later this month tix will be available for my mini TOUR of Japan at Billboard live! Keep checking the sight to be among the first to hear Ms. Vocalist Live!!!
Hope you’re all swell
I’m now going to try to pretend my body doesn’t think it’s day instead of night and get some sleep as I sing tomorrow on television again….all air dates will be announced soon!
ARIGATO from Tokyo!!!
Debbie-San !!!
P.S. I had the honor of sharing the stage with legendary traditional Japanese singer Fuyumi Sakamoto. She was SO elegant and her voice SO crystal clear! And, I was SO thrilled to hear someone through the walls doing vocal warm ups other than me!!!
She was also so gracious and generous she presented me with a huge bouquet of yellow roses symbolizing luck! I know she went and got them herself – it wasn’t some promo gimmick!
It would be like Ms. Streisand handing any of us flowers….what an honor!
I hope to be a part of the Japanese musical landscape without another decade long absence for years to come. I truly love it here! This just in… Posted in Appearances, Stage on November 5, 2010 by Bob Merrick This just in… Deb will be playing Two live shows on Feb 7th 2011 at Billboard Live in Tokyo and another Two shows on Feb 10th! Stay tuned for details on how to purchase tickets

I've got that tourbook also.
It looks like she's gained a little weight back which is good.
I wonder how long she's supposed to be in Japan anyway?

The Simpson Sisters were fansNot Lisa & Maggie... The Simpspn Sisters Were Fans BY LESLEY MESSER, ?PEOPLE? Jessica Simpson releases her Christmas album on Monday, but 20 years ago, the newly-engaged singer was just a 10-year-old in Texas, celebrating the holidays with her family. This shot of Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz with their parents in 1990, shows the girls celebrating an exciting moment in their young lives: getting these “Debbie Gibson outfits” for Christmas! “Me and my sister would always sleep together in the same room when Santa came,” Simpson said on CBS’s Early Show Monday. “I just always remember … both of us were up probably before [my parents] probably wanted to get up. And then we would fight about who gets what.” Sounds more like a general description of the clothes (ie rimmed hats & sweaters) than somebody admitting to have been a fan. Don't think Jessica had mentioned Deb in past interviews, though she was old enough to been aware of pop music in the late 1980's as a kid.

I don't think I've ever heard Jessica ever mention Deborah in an interview or anything like that. If she has then I haven't seen it. The two that I know of that have said they were fans were Brandy and Gwen Stefani.

Diane Gibson to speak at the Learning Annex Diane looks good for her age, which I'm guessing she's in her 60's Prior to Deborah’s rise to fame, Diane Gibson worked as an office manager in various doctor offices. She quit her day job to help develop and nurture her daughter’s natural talent as a vocalist and pianist, and guide her through the treacherous waters of the pop music world. She learned about publishing rights, mechanical royalties, deal points, and made one of the most lucrative deals for her daughter that an artist ever had at that time with the legendary Atlantic Records. Throughout her career, Diane has managed several other acts, including the Australian recording artist and TV personality JoBeth Taylor; Chris Cuevas, who scored a few Billboard Hot 100 hits; and Bryan Austin, who had the hugely popular country hit “Radio Active.” Today, she continues to work with and develop new talent. Chris Cuevas & JoBeth Taylor had hits? Sorry to sound ignorant, but wasn't aware of it. JoBeth might've been popular in Australia.

About the benefit with the Shrek musical cast, "Naughty List", and some upcoming SyFy film she stars on... Wonder if "Naughty List" would be uploaded? sourceForget “Deborah” – Debbie Gibson is back!
Posted on San Francisco Bay Guardian December 13, 2010
Author Sean McCourt
Despite having had a nearly 25-year (and counting) career in show business, singer Debbie Gibson is still full of youthful energy and excitement when talking about recent projects and what she has planned for the future — perhaps that is due in part to the fact that she had her first hit single and taste of fame when she was only 16 years old. The ever-vivacious Gibson is particularly excited about taking part in a benefit concert and cabaret show tonight here in San Francisco, “One Night Only: A Shrektacular Holiday Celebration,” which will also feature the cast of Shrek currently at the Orpheum Theatre, and raises funds for the Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation.
“Pretty much if I’m available, I can’t say no to this organization,” says Gibson, who has always been heavily involved with helping charitable groups throughout her career. “I really enjoy these intimate shows with solo theater performers, and it’s kind of a perfect fit for me — obviously I bring my pop persona to the table, but at the same time I’m part of the theater community, so it makes perfect sense really.”
The ‘80s pop chanteuse, famous for her initial hits such as “Only In My Dreams,” “Out of the Blue,” and “Electric Youth,” was one of the few stars of that time and genre who wrote and arranged much of her own material, which led to her successful forays into Broadway productions, and eventually into acting for film.
Her recent appearance in the cult B-movie Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus has also sparked a new run of interest for celluloid gigs, with Gibson happily looking forward to the release of a new SyFy Channel movie, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, which finds her teamed with another singer and actress who once vied for the same airwaves and video times as she did back in the 1980s — none other than Tiffany.

Clip from recent interview with Access HollywoodIt's funny that the host said "Before Britney & Christina" since both were teen idols from the early part of the last decade and now aren't as popular ( well, music wise since Britney is mostly tabloid fodder). Now it's Taylor Swift and whoever with a sitcom on Disney Channel. Deb wasn't the first female teen pop artist either.
