Hi!
Posted on March 10, 2009 by Deborah Gibson
Hey everyone! Looove the comments about “Already Gone” and appreciate the candor. I actually agree about the high chorus’s. In fact, my sister Michele used to say that about “Who Loves Ya Baby?”. She used to say “why do you have to sing so hiiiigh?”. It’s a weird thing because songs like to live in certain keys. They just sound best in certain keys. Then, I aim to meet the challenge. Yes - my voice thins out a bit on top and the newer tunes I just completed for the next album are indeed a bit lower - or, if they are high, the vocal is meatier. There are personal changes happening within me left and right and, lemme tell ya - I think I just did one of my raw-est vocals. I sang with total abandon and I’m so proud. Can’t wait for you to hear…… So, I’m learning and growing and appreciate the comments because when lots of people concur usually there is something to it!

I also was thinking about the next “pop” album being under the “pop” brand name of “Debbie”. I think it confuses overseas fans to say “Deborah” and may confuse everyone if I go back to “Debbie” but, my position on that would be “Deborah” serves me for artsier records and theater and this gal wants hits and the hitmaker is “Debbie”. I was even thinking about writing a toungue in cheek song about it, like “What’s in a Name?” Or, “Deborah, Debbie, Whatever!!!!”. Sometimes people say “Debbie…..oh, I mean Deborah” and I reply “yeah, both of us are here!” Ha! Lemme know your thoughts on the name!

And, keep the comments comin’…… Can’t wait ’til y’all see the video! Oh, and - one last thing……. There is a certain country music themed TV show (no one mention it by name! Keep it on the down low!) that mayyyy have expressed interest. Thoughts on that too? Since so many of you mentioned the country sound….. Ok - that’s all for now! Hope everyone’s having a great week so far!

And, to Cambell -

Yes! “Win lose or draw” was awesome! And, Grease still lives in my heart and will 4ever. Even funnier was “Run the Risk” where I was dressed in some sort of wolf costume crossing a pond of green slime! That’s what I love about my fellow theater peeps - we don’t take ourselves too seriously : )

If it's "Gone Country" (didn't mention it on comments)... not watching.  Tongue Reality shows are bad enough and she have done enough with "Skating". Wouldn't mind a country album, though I strongly detest the genre and mostly indifferent, but I'd give it a chance.

As for the name, she should stick to Deborah since  it's actually her name. Even if she releases a song that pokes fun of her name, most people wouldn't take the joke and assume she's using it as a gimmick to get back on top.

Actually, she should slightly seperate herself from the past since she's nolonger catering towards teenyboppers (which most still pegs her as a "pop princess"), which like herself have grown,  obviously have matured a lot since the 1980's. I might get hated, but that's just an honest opinion. (Didn't write that either on the comments since I don't want to ignite a heated argument. Though she has the power of doing whatever she's intitled of doing.  Smiley Then again, it doesn't really matter since she's still the same Deborah Gibson.

Yeah, I was a bit immature.

I have the urge to show other boards "Already Gone", but not to since it'll more likely get ignored and get snarky remarks from wannabe music critics.

I somewhat have mixed feelings since I would end up getting ridiculed for listening to Deb since nobody listens to her in the inner city and most of the people I know of are into Top 40, rap, and some into alternative. (Ironically, I'm pretty much semi-emo since I whine too much).

OK, I'll stop now...  Lips sealed Smiley

I think it might be a good thing if she went back too Debbie. People know her for that name she had more sucess with it.  Plus we can stop those stupid Deborah Debbie Gibson comments.

I find it baffling that that many decided that she should go by "Debbie".

Good thing Deb isn't a popular choice for ridicule, though there might be some rude comments from the media.

From a marketing stand point it might not be such a bad idea for her to go by Debbie again.  A lot of people that haven't been into her in a long time might respond to that better.  I've heard it said before that when she changed her name to Deborah that it alienated some fans but I'm not so sure about that.  Being alienated by a minor name change like that is really shallow.  I think what caused Deborah's popularity to decline was 100% the big change in music from dance pop to alternative in the early '90s.   It wasn't just her that got sort of pushed aside either.  There were a lot of people and groups that had big hits and albums that all of a sudden were just pushed out the door.

I agree with her for her msuic career she needs to go back to Debbie Gibson.  People know her well by it.   Plus the font she uses looks better with Debbie the letters all match out and you don't see anything extra.

She can well enough use Deborah for theater.

I don't think it will hurt her to use Debbie again.  For nostalgia reasons it might even help her.

Hi everybody.
I agree you Erica.
As Debbie she got lots of success around the world, everybody knows her.
As Deborah she has got success on theatre musical and everybody remember her as Debbie.
Since she decided to change Debbie for Deborah, her musical career has gone down but as actress she has opened a new career.
Then I think is a goos idea, Debbie the singer and Deborah the actress.
Hey, something like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. lol.
The most important is the she gets success again like time ago, Debbie or Deborah.
I could say I prefer Deborah but... I'm nothing to decide.
Jordi.

I'm keen on the Debbie text motif... but I know times have changed since the '80's.  Still, you have to promote something before worrying about the name.  The recent sexy train cab pic holds lots of promise IMO.

Have to say, she made the "Debbie" text all her own... she should own it like she stole it  Grin!

I usually refer her as "Debbie" when I'm posting about her early material, though Debbie, Deborah, Deb or even  Deborah Taylor (whenever she she decides to get hitched) she's still the same person.

She could go by whatever moniker she wants...

Though many people tend to associate "Debbie Gibson" was a teen idol, which she's obiviously now an adult and majority of her fanbase have also grown which she pretty much caters to. (I know there's a few younger fans, but not as much compared to those into whatever's the flavor of the month. I've done surveys about her music on my peers and teenagers with mostly negative comments.)

It is because Deb's music were never taken seriously. I've recently re-collected my Debbie Gibson's album in CD format. I took Electric Youth to re-listen 20 years later and I discovered Deb penned such beautiful songs at such a young age.

That shows nowadays teenages prefer to listen to mediocre music rather that good quality penned music.

I was a teenager in this decade... though good thing for the internet

I enjoy Deb's singing voice, which I find very pleasing, soothing, and on some songs like "Losin' Myself" sensual.

There's some people on the nostalgia board that listen to pop ballads, but dismiss Deb... they're missing out on a great artist. (Honestly, I don't think anybody actually listen to the song links on the threads I used to post...don't post any threads since I became a joke and some bullies have posted mean spirited stuff)

I find it strange that there's other singers that music critics, the media and such consider great, but I pretty much disagree. Won't say any names, though I've ranted about several before...
