Also where's Motley Crue? "Home Sweet Home" was very popular, from what I've heard.

Several other omissions...

...

Take on me wins hands down. Best video of 1985 by far.

Like a virgin only #91 Huh What ? THE video that made Madonna a mega sex symbol ! (at least in France) Aaaah, that legs spreading...

Why am I not surprised to see Dire Straits #1... Their song was anti-MTV, but turned out to be the best advertisement MTV ever got... The vid was on heavy rotation for months...

Happy to see some Simple Minds highly ranked. Jim Kerr was one of the most charismatic singers at the time, and still is anyway.

No U2 ? IIRC Pride was from 1985, and is one of my fave of that era.

The song was the OST for a James Bond movie, that's why...
I quite like Duran Duran. Most of what they did at the time was VERY cheesy, but fun (although they had a tendancy to take themselves a bit too seriously...)

"Take on Me" might be the best one hit wonder song of all time.

I find it ironic that the Norwegian band a-ha just broke-up and 24 years ago the song "Take On Me" went #1 in the US (according to a Top 40 recap).

Technically they did split in the early 1990's, but reformed 11 years ago.

I remember that song in 1985.  It might have been the biggest one hit wonder single in history.

They also had a second hit in the states with "The Sun Always Shine On TV" that was a Top 20 hit and even won two VMAs  along side the more well known "Take On Me".

Turns out that Dire Straits "Money For Nothing" is now banned in Canada.

It's edited on a Time Life compilation CD I own and the video is edited on VH1 Classic in the states.  Tongue

While it's a derogatory word, the song is against the music industry...yet Eminem probably still gets played  Roll Eyes

Politically correctness is overrated
