In the 1980's, The Jets, Wham!, George Michael, New Edition, New Kids,  Five Star, Kylie Minogue, and Tiffany. Also early Madonna and Bananarama.

1990's: Celine Dion and Jewel would be close since both are known for ballads.

Now: nobody

Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, and Alicia Keyes are young female singer/songwriters, but are musically different

The Anti Debs: too long to list, though the majority of today's young pop singers lack or have very little talent and lip synch. Not to mention majority being famous for the sake of being famous rather than focusing on their music/acting.

BTW, I know Deb's unique and one of a kind. Smiley

The biggest thing is that in Deborah's era and before, lip synching was considered to be a mortal sin.  Just allegations of it could really hurt someone's career.  It made them look like a phoney.  Today though lip synching is totally accepted and even expected.  What's worse is that younger people today don't see anything wrong with it.

As for modern pop princesses of the last decade, probably Mandy Moore would be close. Though she's now more folk and in recent interviews stated that she's ashamed of her early albums.

I can't figure that out.  She shouldn't be ashamed of her earlier albums or anything.  That's what she was doing then and there wasn't anything wrong with it.

But that's how Deborah feels, keeps on saying stuff like her albums were "cheesy".

It's different.  Her earlier stuff was cheesy compared to how music is now but Mandy seems to like to pretend that her first few albums never happened.  That's what I don't like.  She won't perform any of those songs or even acknowledge them in any way.

The difference between Deb & Mandy is that Deb had more more control as a teenager, which she wrote/produced her own material.

Don't know much about Mandy's early albums, but record companies sometimes force their artists to be a certain image like Nelly Furtado's recent to boost sales or to fit with the current trends of the era. Tiffany is one example since her manager had control over her music, image, and forced her to become a pop princess.

One now that reminds me alot of Deborah is Country Singer Taylor Swift.

She re-released her debut CD in Nov 0f 2007 with a DVD. There is a part of the DVD called GAC Short Cuts. It is a TV special that basically tells how Taylor Got started. The story sounds very similar to Deb. For one she writes alot of her own Music. She brought out her CD at about the same age Deb did. There is one part of the DVD where Taylor Talks about hearing her song for the first time on the Radio. She was apperantly driving in the Car with her friends and the song came on the Radio and she got so excited she almost drove off the Road. Seems to me I heard Deb tell that same story when She first heard OIMD on the Radio.

I had the pleasure of Seeing Taylor Live in Concert in LA last thrusday. I ended up getting to the concert early becasue I wanted to avoid rush hour traffic. Anyway I ended up meeting Taylor before the show. There were several other fans getting autogrpahs as well. It was Taylor who wanted to stay and meet her fans however her bodyguard was rushing her along quite quickly. I have had this same experience with Deb. It seems Deb was the one who wanted to stay and meet fans however it seemed Diane or her Security Guard were the one rushing her along.

Taylor was also quite nice. She thanked those that she met for buying her CD and thanked us for coming to the show. I really think that shows alot of class when a famous person actually takes time to thank their fans. It was a very good concert I only wish it would have gone a little longer.

I've seen her on the "Rockin New Years" special hosted by Fergie some weeks ago.

Though not impressed and not into country (no offense), I acknowledge her  talent and like that she  plays guitar.

"Still Here"  by  Natasha Bedingfield (from her "N.B." album) sounds a bit like a Deb ballad. No particular song, but just from the style of the song being a piano ballad and the melody of the song.

Though not on her "Pocketful of Sunshine" album.

Though different in terms of music, 24 year old blue eyed soul singer Duffy also writes her own songs.
