No offense to fans of these bands...

Also added three genres since I'm not fond of them...

(in no particular order)

10. Radiohead

Despite that they're kissed upon by many music critics, I find their music incredibly boring. Though "Creep" and "Karma Police" are OK songs.

9. Whitney Houston

...see Celine Dion, though I only can tolerate "I Want To Dance With Somebody"

8. Barry Manilow

...don't know anybody who listen to him and his music reek sweaty gym socks

7. Journey

I can't stand Steve Perry's voice.

6. Celine Dion

...way too over the top and find her ballads cloying

5. Coldplay

...see Radiohead

Though I don't like any of their songs.

4. Michael Jackson

... I like a couple of his songs from the '80's & his days from The Jackson 5. This has nothing to do with the surrounding controversy, it's just the fact he's overhyped and haven't done any decent songs since the early 1990's.. Though have to say that he's a sicko... though that's what he's more known for now...

3.  Beach Boys

hear one song and you've already heard them all. Though "Good Viberations" is the only song I can tolerate

2. Britney Spears

why is she still famous and she's mostly tabloid fodder

1. Madonna

I'll admit that I like a couple of her material from the '80's, but she tends to be "controversial" and try to grasp attention from the media she doesn't really need and follow trends rather being a trend setter she was about 25 years ago.

 emo

...liked it better when it was called alternative.

I know it's not much  different, though most of their influences are alternative bands like The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, and Green Day.

also would've added numetal, though thankfully is nolonger popular

country

...enough said.

gangsta rap

though technically any rapper since 1993 (gangsta or not), though NWA made gangsta rap mainstream in 1989. Don't mind some songs from Public Enemy  and "Nothing But A 'G' Thang" from Dr Dre. Most I've heard are about glamorizing violence/"thug" lifestyle and is just noise to my ear.

I can't deny any of your choices, maybe for different reasons, but the choices are good (or is it bad)  Smiley

10. Radiohead
Early albums are OK. OK computer is a fantastic album. But since it went downhill, Kid A was almost unbearable. I didn't even bother listening to their latest offering.

9. Whitney Houston
True. She has a good voice, but many female singers have, too. And she has her fair share of scandals, too.
Quote
8. Barry Manilow
Only known in the US. I have yet to hear a song/see a CD of him in France.
Quote
7. Journey
They still exist ? Never heard of them since separate ways (and that was 25 years ago)
Quote
6. Celine Dion
Problem is she has a lack of personality : she will sing (well) whatever songs she's told to, but has no personal style. Same for her french albums.
Quote
5. Coldplay
Not bad. But in this genre, Keane are 100 times better.
Quote
4. Michael Jackson
Seems nobody cares of him anymore here.
Quote
3.  Beach Boys
hear one song and you've already heard them all.
Agreed

2. Britney Spears
Agreed

Here I disagree. What you say is true for her latest album, but the previous ones were OK and did set trends. Except for a few mistakes (i.e. the erotica album), getting quasi ininterrupted success for 25 years is a fantastic achievement.
And no mistake, although I have some early albums of her, I'm Madonna-neutral.

emo
Don't know what is emo exactly, but I quite like their influences... A lot
Quote
country
very minor genre here.
Quote
gangsta rap
Fantastically boring, I agree.

I'll add all this RNB crap we've been inundated with for a few years. Though I moderately like Amy Winehouse.

Colbie Collait, I find her voice bland and too "folky" for my taste

Also the lyric  "crinkle my nose"  from "Bubbly" isn't really romantic since it sounds as if the person's trying to sneeze.

not a big fan

9. Whitney Houston

...see Celine Dion, though I only can tolerate "I Want To Dance With Somebody"

she started screwing up when she hung out with Bobby Brown

8. Barry Manilow

...don't know anybody who listen to him and his music reek sweaty gym socks

His last three CDs debut in the top ten, which is more than you can say about Deb.

7. Journey

I can't stand Steve Perry's voice.

agreed

6. Celine Dion

...way too over the top and find her ballads cloying

used to like her, but now I find her voice grating.

5. Coldplay

...see Radiohead

ITA.

4. Michael Jackson

he USED to be good. Now even Brit thinks he's a freakshow

3.  Beach Boys

hear one song and you've already heard them all. Though "Good Viberations" is the only song I can tolerate

you probably can say the same thing about their "rivals" The Beatles

2. Britney Spears

why is she still famous and she's mostly tabloid fodder

I have not a clue

1. Madonna

I'll admit that I like a couple of her material from the '80's, but she tends to be "controversial" and try to grasp attention from the media she doesn't really need and follow trends rather being a trend setter she was about 25 years ago.

got it in one. Sooner or later(and I'll bet on the former) people will tire of her being controversial for the sake of being controversial act, and she'll be a 50 year old version of Deb

I don't like it either

Shania, Faith, Carrie, and Taylor Swift I agree are annoying. But if you think Alison Krauss is lame, you have no taste in music whatsoever.

gangsta rap

though technically any rapper since 1993 (gangsta or not), though NWA made gangsta rap mainstream in 1989. Don't mind some songs from Public Enemy  and "Nothing But A 'G' Thang" from Dr Dre. Most I've heard are about glamorizing violence/"thug" lifestyle and is just noise to my ear.

ITA. I like MC Hammer, and some others, but Eminem is as annoying as Celine.

I kind of agree on a number of the names above.

Beach Boy's: BOORING. all there songs sound the same.

Celine Dion. Yes she may have a great voice. But like someone said above she has no personality. It is also kind of annoying when she just stands on the stage and sings and does all kind of contortions with her arms. She waves them around like crazy in almost every song. Geez at least learn how to play a guitar or piano and do that during a song. If I have to hear "My Heart will go on" One more time I am gonna scream.

I will take Katie Melua over Celine any day. God what a voice and she plays the Guitar as well as the piano. She is especially good live.

How about Barbara Streisand! She always says she is so afraid of performing on stage in front of a audience. However she is certaintly not shy about charging upwards of $300-$500 per ticket to her concerts. Also I notice she puts all the lyrics to her songs on monitors in front of the stage in case she forgets the words. Of all the concerts I have been to I have never seen any singer do this.

She also seems to like to talk about politics on stage during the concert. I don't know about anyone else here but I go to a concert to hear music not about her political views.

I have seen her perform one of her concerts on TV and really don't see what the big deal is about her. Very Overrated and average singing voice at best.

I've heard of Barbara Streisand tickets going for over $1,000 before.  That's just grossly overpriced.

Yup, so much for her political rants about how poorly treated the middle class are.  Hey...middle class...Babs feels your pain and she stands behind you 100%, she'll just never stand before you at a concert because you can't afford it.  LOL!  I know a severely underrated artist that always makes it a point to thank us all for spending the 10 dollars of our hard-earned cash to see her.  Overrated artists?  Has anybody mentioned "Fallout Boy" yet?  They're awful!  The singer always sounds like he's trying to give birth to a bowling ball.

How's everybody been?  Its been a long time.  Grin

I usually don't like country music however after seeing Carrie Underwood on American Idol. I became intersted. Early in 2007 I was at Opening Day at Dodger Stadium and discovered the talents of Country Singer Taylor Swift. She was the opening day pre-game entertainment.

Anyway I just went and saw her in-concert a few weeks ago out here in Los Angeles. I also had the pleasure of meeting her before the concert. I had her sign a couple CD booklets from her Debut CD and her X-mas CD. She actually thanked me for buying her CD's and thanked me again for coming to the show. I think it shows real class when a singer actually takes time to thank the ones that made them popular. I have only met one other singer that has done something like this.

Since MJ is releasing another "special edition" of one of the best selling albums of all time...

"Thriller" is a good album, but not my personal "all time greatest".

"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin", "Human Nature", "Billie Jean" and "Beat It" are among the best

"Thriller" is a classic music video, but the song sounds a bit like something from a novelty Halloween album with the sound effects and Vincent Price's "rap" (spoken word sequence). My favorite MJ video is the short version of "Smooth Criminal" from 1988 (from "Bad" album).

"PYT" is politically incorrect by today's standards for obivious reasons

Suprisingly, the updated version of "Wanna Be Startin Somethin" featuring Akon is good. Except that Akon isn't a good singer, but the production and the beat is great.

There was already another "special edition" some years ago, but with a few bonus tracks like "Carosel", which is an OK song, and the demo version of "Billie Jean".

The only difference is that there's more previously unreleased tracks and some new remixes/remakes.

Despite that he's one of the most overexposed celebrities, he's far more known for his controversy &  plastic surgeries than his music. Plus, he haven't had a  hit song/album for over 15 years.
