I usually don't like country music however after seeing Carrie Underwood on American Idol. I became intersted. Early in 2007 I was at Opening Day at Dodger Stadium and discovered the talents of Country Singer Taylor Swift. She was the opening day pre-game entertainment.
Anyway I just went and saw her in-concert a few weeks ago out here in Los Angeles. I also had the pleasure of meeting her before the concert. I had her sign a couple CD booklets from her Debut CD and her X-mas CD. She actually thanked me for buying her CD's and thanked me again for coming to the show. I think it shows real class when a singer actually takes time to thank the ones that made them popular. I have only met one other singer that has done something like this.
Later Bruce
Bruce, Yup, gotta love those artists that stay humble and appreciate the people around them. When I was 16, I saw a band called The Blake Babies for the first time, and the singer was this shy, little, auburn-haired, blue-eyed, 19 year-old girl named Juliana Hatfield. I instantly loved their music, and it didn't hurt at all that the singer was so easy on the eyes. Here it is, almost 21 years later, and Juliana is on her own (a solo artist since 1992...writes, produces, plays a multitude of instruments, and now has her own record label), and still amazes the hell out of me. I don't get to see her in concert very often, but when I do, its always a treat and she interacts on a very personal level with the audience...and always "Wow! They charged you guys 15 dollars to see me? I'm sooooo flattered that you're all here." One of her latest collaborative efforts, a band called Some Girls, which enlists her old band-mate Freda Smith, also enlists the talents of bassist Heidi Gluck. After meeting Heidi at a Some Girls show, she's like a little sister to me, so sweet and easy to talk to...it was like talking to a long-lost friend. Doh!!! That's right! We were supposed to be talking about OVERrated artists, not UNDERrated! IK

Why not start a thread about underrated artists?

Another overrated band: Panic at the Disco. Horrible for pretty much the same reason as Fallout Boy, in fact, I'm not entirely convinced that they are different bands. They sound like a Queen cover band with nothing even remotely original in their interpretation. Oh, and how's this for the ultimate in pretentiousness? They recently made the "big" announcement on the radio that they are dropping the exclamation point from the end of their name. Ooooohhhh...how very "artistic" and "mysterious" of them.

Amy Winehouse
Enough said... though I consider "Rehab" as a novelty song since I find it funny

I concur on that. I heard she won "Best New Artist"...which shows that those award shows are pre-determined. What the hell's up with a Brit trying to look like some Long Island shiksa anyway? I was rooting for Paramore in that category, talented bunch of kids...Hayley's got a pretty incredible voice actually. A lot of power from such a small girl.

Hell yes. Long Island shiksas look better than her anyway. Not digging the tramp stamps Amy. Not digging the tramp stamps.

Oasis, they were kissed upon about over a decade ago and even been compared to The Beatles, which is plain wrong

Ashlee Simpson. Why can't people support female pop/rocks acts featured on One Tree Hill instead? eg.A Fine Frenzy, Feist, Kate Voegel, Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles.

You aren't the only one who thinks Ashlee Simpson might be the most overrated singer in the past 20 years. She's a fake. Milli Vanilli lost thier careers because of that but it's made Ashlee's.

She's only famous because of Jessica, Honestly, I actually thought "Pieces of Me" was an OK song, though disliked "La La" and noticed that she takes her psuedo punk image too seriously... Not to mention she's dating the singer from Fall Out Boy, one of the most overrated emo bands. I like some songs from The Killers and White Stripes, but not much into emo.

Disney Channel brand manufactured pop acts... enough said
Samantha Fox, a few of her songs are OK like "I Wanna Have Some Fun" & "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)", but most of her songs sound the same and she appeared to be more focused on her image.

Well, it would certainly make sense that Samantha appeared to be more focused on her image. Since she was more of a model than a musician or singer. She was first released as more of a novelty act than anything else, much like other Page 3 Girls before her.
I'm not sure I would call her overrated, she had a year or two where she was marginally famous and that was pretty much it. Her first album was actually pretty decent, and was fairly diverse. The second wasn't bad either, but there were a few signals of what was to come. I just wish that she had kept her association with the members of Hanoi Rocks, as opposed to crossing over to those Cult Jam guys. That was about the time it all turned into drum-machine, over-produced, dance club crap.

Christina Aguilera, granted that she's a decent singer, but I find her too trashy (especially the horrid "Dirrty"), and also very arrogant in interviews. Well, atleast she's not tabloid fodder.

How about Fergie. I really don't see what all the excitement is. I have seen her perform on tv shows and really don't get it.

When Fergie's first solo hit "London Bridges" was released, I thought she was a Gwen Stefani wannabe, but after "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Glamorous", I found her music OK.
