also Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. On both nights, it’s part of aquatic-creature marathons—which on the 29th also includes the broadcast premiere of the notorious recent DVD release MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS  at 9 p.m.

In the scene where Emma, Seiji and Lamar are interrogated, Baxter (Lorenzo Lamas) describes Emma as "a woman whose career is all washed-up." This is a pun on Deborah Gibson's music career, which reached its peak with the album Electric Youth in 1989, but floundered through the 1990s.

I actually agree on this review. Though I've only seen a few clips, which I actually found boring (no offense)...

Quote
Of course it is bad but the serious tone and lack of silly action limits how good/bad it is even when watched ironically, 6 July 2009

Author: bob the moo from Birmingham, UK

Snakes on a Plane proved that a wonderfully trashy title can do wonders for your marketing, generating buzz on the internet for free while also playing into the "so bad its good" aspect so that it takes pressure off the film from people paying money and expecting it to be good in any way at all. Thus it was with Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus – a film that sounded like camp fun was going to be as simple as falling off a log because surely nobody will take it seriously and the rubbery effects will be goofy and silly. To a point this film delivers on that but sadly not to the point where the film is "good" but only to the point where it a trashy film that is only to be watched ironically.

First of all let me score the open goals. The plot is not "bad" because the concept of a monster movie alone doesn't create a "bad" film and those that dismiss it because of the monsters are guilty of coming to a genre film without being able to meet it on genre terms. The dialogue is fairly risible with lots of exposition lines that don't flow that well at all and of course sound even worse even delivered by a cast who will be unlikely to do much more than this level of work (and bless them I suppose someone has to). It must be said that Gibson looks great for almost 40 but this is not the same as being able to act or have screen presence. It is no surprise that she cannot do much with the material but she doesn't hold the attention that well either – it is telling that several viewers here noticed cutie Cooper Harris in a tiny unnamed character more than Gibson. Lamas is wonderfully cheesy with his greasy pony tail suggesting he has yet to discover that the 80's are over. He is wooden but he at least is dumb fun. Lawlor delivers a weird Scottish/Irish accent that isn't awful but isn't any good either - hard to believe that he is actually Irish by birth. Chao is so-so and the rest of the cast are fairly wooden as one would expect.

The main problem with the film though is the lack of comic badness and also the lack of trashy monsters. The former problem comes from the film being directed with a far too serious a tone that fails to buy into the silliness suggested by the concept and the title. This restricts the fun but not nearly as much as the lack of screen time for the monsters. Their screen time is limited and, when they appear, the footage is often repeated from earlier scenes several times over and there are only a few scenes that are comically silly (the plane attack and the Golden Gate Bridge attack). I appreciate resources were limited but it is annoying and again limits even the trashy appeal of the film. Even the stock footage of planes, battleships etc is often looped many times with obvious and ineffective "jump" edits to try and make it feel like action is happening. No wonder Jack Perez took his name off it – his 2nd units and archive staff probably have more of them in this than him.

Overall Mega Shark etc is as bad as you know it will be and on that level there is a certain amount of ironic trashy enjoyment that you can have – albeit nowhere near enough. The usual problems (acting, script, directing) come with the territory but the lack of fun and dumb thrills are harder to understand/forgive and make this film a promising title but little else.

Lorenzo should speak for himself.  What's he done since "Falcon Crest?"

Cool

In 2008, 3 Deb videos aired in a row during a marathon of '80's music videos on VH1 Classic on the 30th..

(though there's no special music video marathon this Labor Day weekend and VH1 Classic is mostly classic rock oriented, recent VH1 specials, and documentries)

It will probably be edited for time from the DVD but I'm going to watch it anyway.

I cannot descirbe enough to you all how this is THE most pointless moive ever made in history.

We rented it for 3.99 and still asked for our money back.

I got my friends all hyped up because Deb was in it--and they all hate her except me, but we had an 'Electric Youth' party and watched MegaShark. I think the movie is an hour and 30 minutes long, but we only got through 30 minutes of it. To sum it up, if you see the trailer on youtube, that's the whole movie.

There is no plot.

ALL of the acting is bad-even the shark.

There's no continuity at all.

"There's something out there"

"Let me point at the moniter and show you absolutley nothing"

...Meanwhile in Japan....

"What do you think that is?"

....Mean while in CA....

"There's something big out there"

Meanwhile in the Floridas keys

::Deb crosses her arms and frowns:

Meanwhile in San Francisco

After 30 minutes of constant what I typed above, we cut it off and all my freinds-including myself walked away, disappointed....

I know I know this was supposed to be a dumb, B movie....but I think the actors shouldve treated it as that and shouldve tried not to act so serious.

Do not buy this movie.

Even if it's 5.99 at Wal Mart

I'll await for Deborah's new music and CD.....this is where she shines and belongs.

ditto

Only saw a few clips on  a YouTube review and the trailer, which I found it boring.

If I were watching tv, I'd just put on a DVD or whatever else is on tv that suits my interest.

"Campy"

When I think of "camp", I tend to associate it with '60's "Batman", '50's creature films, '70's cop shows, etc. that are either unintentionally funny or with primitive special effects or dated look  that gives the film/tv show it's charm.

Quote
Camp is an aesthetic sensibility wherein something is appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value

Technically would be considered "Guilty Pleasure" since that's when somebody likes something that's frowned upon by most people or themselves like '70's cop shows, "Baywatch", most tv cartoons, teen films, '50's creature flicks, etc.

As a fan of animation, I know majority of tv animation is frowned upon by hardcore vintage animation buffs, though looked fondly by nostalgic adults that grew up on them.

Pretty much difficult to put into words since everybody have different perspective on things...
