1940's... swing/big band

1950's... doo wop, rock n' roll

1960's... Motown, British Invasion, psychedelic rock

1970's... hard rock, soul, punk, disco

1980's... new wave, hair metal,  old school rap, new jack swing, dance pop

1990's... alternative, gangsta rap, techno

2000's... emo, Disney Channel products, rap still popular

In order:

1970's
1990's
1960's

My top 4 decades:

1960's
1980's
1970's
1990's

2000 does not figure in any poll answered I would ever give as a decent music decade, and that's not because you get older and kids label you "old", this decade's music is just plain rubbish.

Voted eighties too.
Hey Woops, you forgot all the progressive rock stuff for the seventies. Not that it matters much, a lot of it was pretty boring and it's dead and gone now, but there are a few real gems.

I like a few songs from the 1950's, but not exactly my ball o' wax

Same for the swing/big band from the 1930's/1940's

Rock... 1960's to early 1990's

Pop: 1960's & 1980's

R&B: 1950's to mid 1990's

Rap: 1980's to mid 1990's

Alternative: 1970's to mid 1990's
