"Careless Whisper" and "Foolish Beat" similarities

Is it just me or the songs "Foolish Beat" from Deb & "Careless Whisper" (Wham!) are kind of similar?

Mostly from the chorus and that the title of the songs are mentioned once.

Is it true that Deb originally wanted to have George Michael to produce the song?

I've read it on a few sites in the past, but didn't find any reliable sources.

"Careless Whisper" Wham! (1985)

"Foolish Beat" Debbie Gibson (1988)

I think that is true.

There are some similarities between the two videos.
