Also generation gap, since most Britney fans are probably in their later teens to mid 20's. And probably only dislike Deb from comments said from Britney or whatever with no actual knowledge about her.

Alot of Madonna fans too me see very shallow people. All they care about is image Though I often find Madonna overrated I enjoy several of her hits and know that she have written several songs in the 1980's. She appears more to be into creating controversy and getting attention she doesn't really need anymore. More people are probably more familiar with her kissing Britney some years ago than the titles of her recent albums or songs. As for her being an '80's icon, it's more because of her fashion in the early/mid '80's. Her singing's average, but wouldn't call her the greatest. I could name better female pop singers from the era like Deb, Taylor Dayne, Janet Jackson, Cyndi Lauper (unique, though sometimes a bit cartoony), and Annie Lennox. Now, talent ( or lack of since there's hardly any except for maybe 1 out of 10 artists) is overshadowed by image along with partying and getting in trouble. |

Madonna does not write her songs, she relies very heavily on others for her hits. She does not have a great voice, she does not have good looks (even when naked), probably can't play an instrument either. She relies on controversy to keep in the publics mind (like her "sex" book or adopting from abroad).
What Madonna does have is a collection of tracks which are hits, and nobody cares who wrote them anymore than they do for any other artist.
Leaving aside Deborah for a moment, artists that can either write their own music, or perform on various instruments is these days worthless. The marketing 'guys' are looking for a pretty face and if they can flog a track with it, and that's all that matters. Long term artists these days don't matter because the pop world is so fickle. 99% of artists will not be able to keep up a long career, but maybe release to their fans (if they have any left).

I've noticed the same thing. If they and Britney fans think Natasha Bedingfield is "talentless" I bet they think Ashlee Simpson is awesome. She's all about image and nothing else. If there is one "celebrity" out there that is totally illegitimate it's Ashlee. Milli Vanilli lost their careers by being fake but it's made Ashlee bigger. That's just the sign of the times. The one thing Madonna is very good at is marketing. She knows exactly how to sell herself and manages to pull a rabbit out of the hat at the right times. If she had been in sales she would have quickly climbed to the top of her field. Since I really don't follow her career I can't tell you what she's been doing lately at all. |

The fact that Ashlee was exposed as a fake on SNL and then was rewarded with a #1 album just proved to me that image trumps talent right now.

I take it we're discussing Ashley Simpson as opposed to to Ashley Tisdale? At least she isn't in your face lately like Britney has been.. I somehow lost track reading this topic...oh well, first post on the updated forum! Britney is just a lost cause...tabloid fodder for the tabloid followers...(TMZ take note) She should take a page from modesty and just basically disappear. Come back when you have a worthwhile song that is good to listen to...  |
