Besides that she's one of the few best (probably the hottest) young actress today, I find her acting good on "The Nanny Diaries", though it was more drama than comedy, and "The Island" was awfully bad. Now she's releasing an album featuring mostly Tom Waits (a folk/blues singer) covers. Scarlett to release debut album in MayScarlett Johansson will release her debut album, "Anywhere I Lay My Head," on May 20.
The 23-year-old Nanny Diaries star spent five weeks recording 10 covers of Tom Waits songs and one original track in Louisiana last spring.
She has displayed her vocal talents previously, singing The Pretenders's "Brass in Pocket" in Lost In Translation and performing on stage with Jesus and Mary Chain last April at the Coachella Music Festival.
Johansson collaborated on the album with producer David Sitek, Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zimmer, and Celebration organist/guitarist Sean Atanaitis. Guessing her music would be a bit indie rock or something like that. Atleast she's not another Britney clone. In other interviews she stated that her music will be "avant garde". I might give her music a chance... The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an emo band that sound like Siouxsie & The Banshees that had a hit with "Maps" some years ago. Never heard of Celebration.

So how do you think this is going to work out for her?

I doubt that her album would be a huge hit, though who knows... A hit song could be possible and the album might debut in the top 20.
Don't think most people are familiar with Tom Waits, including myself since I'm not into folk and the only thing I know is that his voice is raspy.
Also have to see if the alternative/indie music crowd would give her a chance or not. Also fans of her acting, which varies.

"Eight Legged Freaks" is really cheesy and no different than the stuff seen on Sci Fi Channel.

Most of the movies on Sci-Fi are bad.
Woody Allen said something about Scarlett Johansson a few days ago. He said that he thinks she's one of the most talented members of her generation but he's worried about her making the wrong decisions in her life. He said something about being worried about her spending too much time partying and hanging with the wrong people. If that's true she needs to stay away from the Parises, Britneys, and Lindsays.

The difference between Scarlett and Ashley Tisdale is that Tisdale stated that her music would be "different" from other current pop singers, but her music is pretty much the same as the others.
Though I don't like "High School Musical" , I actually gave her music a chance and didn't like it.
I find her acting OK and actually like her comedic timing and facial expressions
One thing I find odd is that her official site/IMDB it stated that she's a fan of Billy Joel, she hardly mentions him in interviews and mostly talk about current pop music and idolizes Jessica Simpson and even Britney Spears (ie she even compared her music to early Britney on an interview sometime ago).
As for Scarlett, have to wait and see... though in interviews she appears to be more into acting. There's not much hype about her album, which is probably good.
Another thing is demographic since Scarlett's fans varies from what movies she appeared in and appeals to a wider age group while Tisdale is marketed as a teen idol and most of her fans are under 25.

I think Ashley Tisdale is going to have a hard time in the years to come by being dismissed as a Disney product or teen idol.

The alternative/indie crowd feels Scarlett is doing Tom Waits covers to attract "hipsters" as fans instead of teeny boppers.

She's doing an auction for charity, which a regular guy gets to hang out with her.
If I had a chance, I probably wouldn't since it would be a let down and I probably would make a fool of myself.

I say try it anyway. You would have a good story to tell and make others feel jealous about, especially if you made a fool out of yourself.

I thought it was kinda brave of her to offer herself like that for charity. I haven't seen hardly any of her work, but might catch her in The Other Boleyn Girl because I'm a fan of Natalie Portman's work (not all, but enough) If it was me, I'd probably take her to a museum like the Rock Hall of Fame or the art museum. Something where we could gawk and comment at stuff. Then have a dinner somewhere and talk a little. That would be pretty much it. I'd take her to a club, but I'm not much of a dancer lol. She'd probably attract too much attention anyways. One can always have museums and restaurants to themselves if they wanted to. If this was on her turf like NYC or something, then I'd let her take the lead. Wouldn't mind checking out a Broadway show with her...

The Scarlett 'Tom Waits cover album' news is actually the inspiration for the recent "April Fools" article.

Listen To Scarlett Johansson's New Singlefrom People.com Scarlett Johansson is making her recording debut with Anywhere I Lay My Head in May – but PEOPLE has an early taste of what to expect with the album's first single, "Falling Down." While Johansson dominates the track – complete with some plucked banjo and chiming bells – she gets a little vocal help from luminary David Bowie, who sings backup. Bowie also lends his voice to "Fannin Street." The album of Tom Waits covers is due in stores May 20.

Saw a clip of her music video. It featured pancake make-up covering her tattoo (which means it's for real)
Her voice reminds me a bit of Sinead O'Conner and is good, but the music isn't my ball o' wax.
