What does anybody think about the overexposed pop act from the later '80's/early '90's?
Though I personally like New Edition better, ironically also formed by producer Maurice Starr.
I can tolerate "You Got It (The Right Stuff)", which is an OK song, but "Hangin' Tough" is overly annoying, IMHO.

I was really indifferent to them when they were big. If I had been a 13 year old girl then it may have been different. I did hear rumors about a possible reunion but one of them denied it on his myspace page. He posted something like it might happen in the distant future but not in the near future.

That's what was reported two days ago. One of them posted a message on his myspace page denying that there were any plans for a New Kids reunion. Either he lied or the report was wrong.

I doubt it.
There was also an attempt of a reunion on a VH1 show titled "Bands Reunited" some years ago.

Turns out to be true since they appeared on Today Show (for an interview, not performance) a few days ago. Not sure if they'll actually perform... though who knows

They're playing the Today Show concert on Friday, May 16th (as well as the Z100 and Kiss 108 concerts that weekend). They're working on a new CD and launching a fall tour.

Due to over response of crowd on March 16 many more tour dates were added .
over 5000 people flocked the streets at the today show.
The Toronoto concert sold out in 4 mins and Chicago in 10mins.
4 concerts have sold out all togather.

I'm more suprised that New Kids are still that popular!
On a nostalgia forum (and everywhere), they're mostly looked as a joke. Though a few wax nostalgia on them.

One thing about teen idols or groups is that they have a hard core group of fans that remails loyal to them forever. Look at Bob Dylan. He's never been a teen idol and hasn't had a hit song or album in 35 years but his shows will always sell out. That was true for The Greatful Dead and Bruce Springsteen too. I really doubt that many of the people that are putting out the disposable junk on the radio today will even be performing at all in ten years time.

The video for "Summertime" was average, which featured them dressed like Backstreet Boys (long disbanded and not popular) and also young women (some probably in diapers or playing with My Little Pony when New Kids were popular) as if they're trying to be "hip". They pulled it off better than Janet Jackson's horrid "Feedback".
