While VH1 Classic have been airing random clips of their best & worst shows, performances, and the first 10 videos MTV aired...

Other than a long winding rant, here's the MTV schedule for August 1, 2011:

Note: AMTV only airs a few times a week and features a news ticker that takes half the screen

That's why I don't watch MTV anymore.  Back in the 80s I couldn't have conceived of how it would radically change directions like it has.

The 80's XM channel is rebroadcasting their MTV 30th special with the surviving MTV VJs (also regular DJs on the channel) with interviews of several '80's artists (ie members of Duran Duran, Rick Springfield, etc.) and played the first songs from the channel's first setlist.

Listened for several  minutes, though changed while getting bored from some of the songs...

Some recordings of the special were uploaded on YouTube on the official Sirius channel over a month ago.

I remember the first group of MTV VJs but I couldn't remember the first one to appear on the air.  Not many people had MTV then outside of New York or Los Angeles.  My then cable company didn't start offering it until the summer of 1982.  My favorite VJs were Martha Quinn and Downtown Julie Brown.
