Most of these were from the 1970s when Amtrak was really trying to drum up business.  It was struggling to survive and was facing the constant threat of being completely eliminated from the next Federal budget if it continued to run on such a big deficit.  The jingle was later sung by Richie Havens.  That's a famous actress in some of these but I can't remember who she is.  I remember the days where there were so Superliners and Amtrak was still in its original color schemes.

This one didn't have John Madden in it.

I remember Ford's campaign for the Mustang GT back in 1988.  It was very successful, so successful that the Mustang was out selling the Camaro about 2:1.

I think I remember some of this but I don't remember the entire, almost infomercial long version of this commercial.  Someone dubbed music over the original sound so you might as well keep the speakers off for it.

I think this was the only commercial for the Mustang SVO.  I loved the looks of the car but the price was outrageous and it's turbo four couldn't run with the GT's V-8.  I've looked around for an SVO in good shape but the collector's market on these things has gone through the roof because so few were made.

It's been almost three years now that all original programming on G4 stopped and I'm already nostalgic for it.  I find myself watching clips on Youtube more all the time.

Now this is how a lot of car commercials were 25+ years ago.  Now they have become somewhat obnoxious with overly loud music and flashy lights.  Sometimes the understated approach is better.  Narrated by Burgiss Meredith.

Another one in my car series, this one a 1985 commercial for the Honda Prelude.  I can't say that I've ever been a fan of Honda cars.  They are good cars but I've just never been a fan of their engine characteristics.  The point is that this was a really good ad campaign and it's one that more ad agencies and auto makers should pay attention to and get inspiration from.

Even though this was a fake commercial from the movie "RoboCop" I still think it's funny and amusing.  The car really stole the show.  It's just a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with a fiberglass body kit on it.  There are body kits for them but the problem is that now those cars are very hard to find, unlike back in 1987 when there were still plenty of them around and you could get one in good condition for about $1,000.

Some commercials from 1987.  It's like producers are trying too hard these days.  Old school is usually better.

Chrysler commercial from 1980 featuring Frank Sinatra promoting the Chrysler Imperial.  They even made a special edition of the car simply called the "Frank Sinatra Edition" that was blue inside and out.  If someone has a Chrysler Imperial Frank Sinatra Edition today in good condition it's worth quite a bit of money.

I think I remember car commercials better because for one there are so many of them on TV and also because they had to be made a little differently from other commercials.

Another in the car series.  From Lincoln in 1988.  The art of the good car commercial seems to be lost now.

Commercials that ran on CBS around Christmas of 1987.  One thing I notice about these is that there is the ability to sell, even hard sell, without being over the top like commercials are today.  It seems like there is a school of directing or current style that says that the louder and more obnoxious you are the more you will get noticed.  You might get noticed but that doesn't mean that people will respond in a positive way.

I looked around for this and I found the commercial for O'Grady's Potato Chips.  These things were on the market in 1984 and 1985 and then they just disappeared.  To this day I think they were the best potato chip I've ever had.  I don't know what happened to the company.
