Worst songs of all time
« on: October 10, 2010, 02:24:43 AM »
A thread about least favorite songs, from any particular genre and/or era.

Not ragging on the '60's since every decade had it's share of clunkers, though most "worst" lists (ie Blender, AOL Radio Blog) tend to list more songs from the 1980's, 1990's, and the past decade (which majority of the music was/stil is horrible, IMHO and would be difficult to rank since there's too many to choose from).

Found a YouTube link with about a  dozen song clips of the worst songs of the 1960's (according to the person who uploaded the video) with title written & pics of the artist.

Worst Songs of the 1960's

I actually like The Newbeats' "Bread & Butter" & "I'm Telling You Now" (Freddie & The Dreamers) & "Judy In Disguise In Glasses" (John Fred & his Playboy Band) aren't that bad...

Tiny Tim "Tip-toe Through The Tulips" would probably rank among the Top 10 worst songs ever...

"McArthur's Park" from Richard Harris was bad, though Weird Al's "Jurassic Park" happens to be one of his best parodies.

Then again, some of the "worst" of the '60's are better  than the most popular songs of the past decade, IMHO...

Some of my least favorite songs from the '60's:

Lesley Gore "Sunshine, Lollipops, & Rainbows"

Simon & Garfunkle "Hazy Shade of Winter", honestly the Bangles' cover is much better, IMHO

Jefferson Airplane "White Rabbit"

Donovan "Atlanitis"

Not into most  psychedelic rock & folk from the era...  Just personal preference...

You've got that right.

I've never been into Simon & Garfunkle.

I just couldn't help but laugh everytime that song came on the radio.  It was so bad that it was funny.  ;D

Worst songs of the '70's:

"I Was Made For Loving You" Kiss. Though the link is a live version, the album version is far worse, IMHO.

Besides being their obligatory disco song, Kiss had better (ie "Shout It Out Loud", "Detroit Rock City", "Rock N' Roll All Nite") and in retrospect sounded forced...

Blondie's "Heart of Glass" isn't a favorite either (nor would consider the worst), but the new wave band pulled the disco sound better.

"I Think I Love You" David Cassidy
"Lovin' You" Minnie Ripperton
"You Light Up My Life" Debby Boone
"Dancing Queen" Abba
"Mandy" Barry Manilow
"Hot Stuff" Donna Summer
"Feelings" Morris Albert
"Fire & Rain" James Taylor
"Free Bird" Lynrd Skynrd
"Puppy Love" The Osmonds
"Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves" Cher
"I Will Survive" Gloria Gaynor
"Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" Rod Stewart
"Without You" Nilsson (Mariah Carey perfected the song in the '90's, IMHO)
"Disco Duck" Rick Dees
"Short People" Randy Newman
"Billy Don't Be A Hero" Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods

Personally not into majority of the music from the '70's with exception of some rock, new wave, and few pop.

There have been many crap songs that have not only made it onto the radio but have also managed to become hit singles.  One of those was "When the Children Cry" by White Lion in 1987.  I just couldn't listen to that whinny, histrionic song then I can't to this day.

The music video for "When The Children Cry" looks like some Public Service Announcement with random black & white images of children. The song's from 1989 though.

While song is boring and also not fond of it, I like  "Wait" &  "Radar Love" (Golden Earring cover) from White Lion. Don't consider them the best nor worst though. There's countless bands that I'm only interested in one or two songs.

Eddie Murphy featuring Michael Jackson "Whatzupwitu" (1993)

A vapid, bland song with the title repeated throughout. Honestly, don't think Eddie Murphy's infamous "Party All The Time" was as bad that many have stated. Though don't consider it the best either. "Whatzupwitu" was far worse and the late Michael Jackson didn't make it any better.

The video was just as horrible, which featured  MJ & Eddie Murphy surrounded by clouds, notes, flying hearts (using blue screen effect) with a chior circling them. Even for 1993, the video looked badly cheesy. In 1999, the music video was ranked the 3rd  worst on "MTV 25 Lame".

Some of the most sappiest ballads...

Plain White T's "Hey There Deliliah"
Celine Dion "My Heart Will Go On"
James Blunt "You're Beautiful"
Tiffany "Could've Been"
Starship "Sara"
Backstreet Boys "I Want It That Way"
Paula Cole "I Don't Want To Wait"
Anita Baker "Sweet Love"
Whitney Houston "I'll Always Love You"
Color Me Badd "I Ador Mi Amor"

Also would admit "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" from Aerosmith is overrated since they had much better in the 1970's & '80's.

Ginuwine "Pony"

With the recent internet memes/cult following, the lyrics are even more  disturbing. Not to mention the belching throughout the song...

For me the worst song ever is "Smells Like Teen Spirit."  That song is so bad that every time I hear it I have to get away from it.
